Tickets for Jack Johnson’s upcoming fall tour in support of his new album From Here To Now To You will be available exclusively through a lottery on www.jackjohnsonmusic.com allowing fans a fair shot at getting a ticket to these intimate theater shows. From now until the Monday, June 24 at 10:00 AM ET, fans can enter the lottery for a chance to purchase up to 4 tickets to the show of their choice. Winners will be selected after June 24th and contacted by email with their purchase instructions.

Johnson’s fall From Here To Now To You Theater Tour will support over 75 hand-chosen community groups across Europe and North America with direct and matching donations and will focus on engaging fans to take action in support of sustainable local food systems and plastic free initiatives.

So on the day we recorded this, not only was I scheduled to have a talk with Michael Franti about his new record “All People” (out July 30!) but he had also called in to Sarah and Vinnie that morning… naturally I had to start my conversation with Michael about the pressing matter addressed in his morning show talk – namely, the subject of his skivvies.

Wanna know how many pairs of underwear he has (and what special occasions he brings them out for?)  I gotcha covered.

We also talked about his new song “I’m Alive” and about how my early-obsession with it has a direct correlation with his (and his beautiful girlfriend’s) sex life.

We had Rob and Kyle from Matchbox Twenty come in, and between playing “Our Song” and “3 am” they also critiqued the office artwork, questioned my random empty beer can, and gave us a glimpse of their rock-star-trashing-a-hotel-room side (screw you, water!)

The list goes on and on because Judy Blume is one of, if not THE, most definitive authors of fiction for kids at that certain age… the age where you don’t feel like a kid anymore, but maybe not a late teen much less an adult. Her books dealt with family and sexuality and religion and race and loss and all those things that very few people know how to talk about at all, much less kids who can’t voice their easiest emotions well – good luck with the tough ones.  On top of all those tough issues, the books also managed to be funny as hell.

Ms. Blume (I had no idea what I was going to call her when I called, thankfully she effortlessly solved that problem at the beginning by saying “Please call us Judy and Larry, that’s what we call each other”) just made a movie version of “Tiger Eyes” with her son – it’ll be available June 7 -  and I called them to talk about that experience.

The conversation got really personal as we talked about what “Tiger Eyes” has come to mean now to Judy, and we also had a really good time talking about their love for New Mexico (and the fact that Judy and her husband are extras in the movie!)

Did you see it used in the previews that used to run for “Epic“?  It’s such a great song – and Gary is such a great interview.

From the first few moments of our talk, when he tells me he’s perched at the top of the Eiffel Tower, I can tell this is gonna be a good one … so of course I eventually had to ask him something I’ve always wanted to but never have before – by far the most random, bizarre, long-lasting band injury I’d ever heard of.  Was it true?  Yep, Gary said, it was…and tells the whole random bizarre story:

This video is so inspiring, because of her grit and her resilience and her survival and then…

…then it ends in everyone dissolving in tears, when – as she put it – her second prayer was answered.

Inside all of our heartbreak for Moore, there are shining moments of heroic teachers and responders and regular citizens doing the right thing – and if your social media page is anything like mine,  we’re all celebrating this one woman’s small miracle together.

Am I the only one who cries when I watch these things?  I don’t know if it’s the look in the kids’ eyes or the way they’re so into it or the teacher at the end – you can just see how much he loves these kids in every second of every song.
