Mattel Unveils Ashley Graham Barbie Doll With No Thigh Gap

As part of the Glamour Women of the Year summit, Mattel showed off their one-of-a-kind Ashley Graham Barbie.

The doll was designed with the input of model and body activist.

“She had to have her thighs touch. No ands, ifs or buts about it. And I asked for cellulite but obviously plastic and cellulite don’t go hand in hand,” Graham shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “It was important that the Barbie resembled me as much as possible. The thighs touching was one way to show young girls that it’s OK for your thighs to touch, despite society saying that a ‘thigh gap’ is more beautiful.”

The Barbie modeled after the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl is only the latest in new dolls from Mattel’s Sheroes line that previously immortalized Ava DuVernay, Zendaya, Misty Copeland and Gabby Douglas. Currently, there are no plans to mass produce the doll but fan outcry has swayed Mattel in the past.
