Dave Grohl’s Mom Wrote a Book About Rock Star Moms

By Amanda Wicks

Behind every great rock star stands a great mother. While that might not be how the saying goes exactly, it’s the subject matter Dave Grohl’s mom Virginia explores in her new book about raising her rock star son, From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars.

More than just a biographical account of raising young Davey (could that ever have been his nickname?), Virginia spent two years speaking with a host of rock stars’ moms to figure out the answer to certain questions, like “Were they as surprised as she was about their children’s fame? Did they worry about their children’s livelihood and well-being in an industry fraught with drugs and other dangers? Did they encourage their children’s passions despite the odds against success, or attempt to dissuade them from their grandiose dreams? Do they remind their kids to pack a warm coat when they go on tour?”

Some of the moms she interviewed for the book include Verna Griffin (Dr. Dre), Marianne Stipe (Michael Stipe of REM), Janis Winehouse (Amy Winehouse), Patsy Noah (Adam Levine) and Donna Haim (HAIM). And to make matters even cuter, Dave wrote the forward for the book, and appears in the cover photo alongside his mom. Both look equally adorable.

Even though the book isn’t due out until April 25, 2017, fans can pre-order it here.
