Billie Joe Armstrong Likens Donald Trump to Hitler

"I don't even know how else to explain it."

Like many other musicians, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has some strong feelings about Donald Trump.

Speaking with Kerrang! Magazine this week, Armstrong likened the Republican presidential candidate to one of history’s worst dictators. “The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are,” Armstrong said. “I actually feel bad for them, because they’re poor, working-class people who can’t get a leg up. They’re pissed off and he’s preyed on their anger. He just said, ‘You have no options and I’m the only one, and I’m going to take care of it myself.’ I mean, that’s f—ing Hitler, man!”

He added, “I don’t even know how else to explain it. I wish I were over-exaggerating. And sometime maybe I do over-exaggerate with [George W] Bush. But with Trump, I just can’t wait ’til he’s gone.”

Armstrong isn’t the first celebrity to use the “H” word to describe Trump. In March, comedian Louis C.K. sent out an email to followers discussing his latest series Horace and Pete, and used the moment to dissuade people from voting for the billionaire. “Please stop it with voting for Trump,” C.K. wrote. “It was funny for a little while. But the guy is Hitler” (via Variety).

Even though Armstrong has sung about his dissatisfaction with George W. Bush on American Idiot, he has yet to pen a song about his hate for Trump. Nipsey Hussle and YG have taken the liberty, though, creating the track “FDT.” Maybe Armstrong would like to collaborate with them for the remix?
