Who knew that San Leandro was the Sausage Capital of California? Back in 1997, the city, upon being bestowed with the formal honor, began their annual Sausage & Suds Festival, and this year marks the 18th celebration of that historic day.
Happening Sunday, October 4, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., East Bay breweries like 21st Amendment Brewery, Drake’s Brewing and Cleophus Quealy Beer Company will head to the streets of the city for the free festival along with vendors grilling up specialty sausage for the 6,000 or so locals headed to the event.
“This is a staple event in our Downtown district that’s put on by a group of great volunteers. We always support these events that bring our community together and provide them with a well-rounded event for all ages,” said San Leandro Improvement Association’s president, Gordon Galvan. “We strive to make Downtown San Leandro an attractive area that residents and visitors want to spend time in and enjoy.”
The festival will also welcome a few musical acts, including Avance and The Spazmatics, and will offer a “Kid Zone” for the little ones with face painting and more.
