Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible seems just as ageless as its star. With a big weekend premiere at the box office, the film easily claimed first place with $56 million over the weekend.
What’s perhaps more impressive though is the fact that Cruise basically carried the weight of the movie by himself. Promos for the film centered around the incredible stunts Cruise took on for the film, including one particularly daring scene where the actor hangs from an A-400 airplane as it takes off.
Another new premiere, Vacation, was met with disappointment from critics. Although the film’s trailers garnered a good amount of buzz from the press, the film fell short, and only took in less than $15 million.
On the menu for next week is Jason Segel’s highly anticipated role as author David Foster Wallace in End of the Tour, a film that Box Office Mojo calls “a contender for a Gold Derby Best Actor slot” and an indie darling.
Stay tuned to find out how Segel fares next week.
