CeeLo is no stranger to controversy, and with his latest new track, he’s inviting even more scrutiny.
The singer and former judge on “The Voice” just dropped a new track called “Robin Williams” largely about the late comedian. The chorus includes lines like, “We don’t know what the next man’s going through / Wish I could say it in a plainer way / We don’t know/ Life reminds me of Robin Williams / We’ve got to laugh the pain away.”
“‘Robin Williams’ is a homage to our humanity,” Green said of the song, “centered [on] the strength it takes to smile in the face of adversity.”
The song is rubbing some people the wrong way, leading critics to claim Green is making a dollar off a tragedy, all while likening the “adversity” Williams faced while trying to cope with depression to Green’s own brand of “adversity” in dealing with the public backlash against him following his comments about rape. These struggles, as some say, are not equal.
What do you think of the song?
