Walt Disney World and Disneyland are the latest places to ban the selfie stick.
The ban goes into effect on Tuesday, June 30 at Disney World, Disneyland, Disney World water parks, DisneyQuest, and parts of Downtown Disney. Disney parks in Paris and Hong Kong join the ban on July 1.
“We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family, and unfortunately selfie-sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast,” Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty told the Orlando Sentinel.
Park patrons will be warned of the ban in parking lots and Resorts but no selfie sticks will be allowed past the park gates.
After growing in popularity, the ubiquitous sticks have been prohibited in various tourist attractions through out the world including most historic sites in Rome and various music festival like Outside Lands, Coachella and Lollapalooza. Opponents have raised both safety concerns and that the selfie sticks are in poor taste and ruin other people’s enjoyment of locations and events.
