The San Francisco Mime Troupe began in 1959 with avant-garde performance events in lofts and basements. And they talk! And sing and dance. Today, the San Francisco Mime Troupe creates and produces socially relevant theater. They present their productions all over the Greater Bay Area and beyond, mostly for free in local parks.
Freedomland is this summer’s production. It focuses on the issue of the militarization of the police and the relationship between the police and young black men and poor people in general.
Michael Gene Sullivan is an actor-writer-director with the San Francisco Mime Troupe.
