Dumbledore And Gandalf To Marry In Front Of Westboro Baptist Church

By Alyssa Pereira

Much to the chagrin of the Westboro Baptist Church, Gandalf the White and Professor Albus Dumbledore will be joined in a most magical union this weekend — right across the street from the WBC.

Last week, the WBC ruffled J.K. Rowling’s feathers when they overstepped their Twitter bounds and decided to butt in on a conversation Rowling was having with a fan. Rowling was posting in relation to Ireland’s recent legislation proposing to legalize gay marriage (it has since passed) and joking with a fan that Gandalf from Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter‘s Dumbledore might make a lovely couple.

The attention-hoarding Westboro Baptist Church saw this a prime opportunity to toss in their unsolicited, bigoted opinion, but fortunately (for us, not them), it was not left unanswered.

Rowling tweeted this, which as of this point has been favorited 24,000 times.

To make matters more hilarious, the Equality House, which sits across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church, will be delivering the proverbial KO on the matter by holding their own wedding — between actors dressed as Dumbledore and Gandalf, naturally.

The ceremony, which will take place this Sunday, June 7 will raise money to benefit LGBT rights.

“People often question why we even mention them, and Ms. Rowling’s words were spot on,” the organization told Huffington Post. “We must actively stand up to hate and ensure that LGBTQ youth understand that they have a broad platform of love and support in this world.”
