Silk Road Founder Gets Life In Prison, No Parole

Ross Ulbricht, the mastermind behind the online criminal marketplace that featured drugs and other illegal goods, will spend the rest of his life in prison. He’s 31.

“Dread Pirate Roberts” as he was known online, had no criminal history when he started his business. Prosecutors said that at least six overdose deaths were traced to illegal drugs purchased on Silk Road.

U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest told Ulbricht he was a criminal and said “It was a carefully planned life’s work. It was your opus, you are no better a person than any other drug dealer.”
