J.K. Rowling Mercilessly Shuts Down Westboro Baptist Church With Single Epic Tweet

By Alyssa Pereira

J.K. Rowling might be one of the most outspoken authors on Twitter, and as such, she does not suffer fools who address her with intolerance, especially when it comes to the LGBTQ community.

Exhibit A: the Westboro Baptist Church.

The church, a beacon for hateful, angry people who can’t tell the Irish flag from the Ivory Coast flag, took issue with a conversation Rowling had with some of her followers on Twitter this week.

Rowling and a couple of her followers (and pretty much the rest of the world on the right side of history) were celebrating the recent legalization of gay marriage in Ireland when she mused that perhaps, fictionally, Gandalf and Dumbledore could finally be married, if that’s what they wanted.

“What if Dumbledore and Gandalf were gay together?”

She added (with lots of emoji) that they could indeed, and they should do so in Ireland.

Three days later, Westboro Baptist thought this a fine time to butt in with their gross opinions, and sent off a tweet (with some unsavory imagery, deleted from embedded tweet below) saying that they would (fictionally) picket this (fictional) union between these (fictional) characters.

Rowling responded promptly, and with fire.
