Unsurprisingly, Furious 7 is still king of the box office. The film is on track to take in over $1 billion overseas, and has earned a cool $320.5 million in the U.S. alone.
However, all that is about to change this weekend: Avengers: Age of Ultron is about to open in the United States. In its international debut in 44 markets (not including the U.S.), it took in $201.2 million, above The Avengers and Iron Man 3. Not too shabby.
Its top market? South Korea, of all places. It debuted at $28.2 million, where it scored the ranking of the second highest grossing film in the history of the country. In Britain, it ranked as the biggest superhero film ever.
Age of Adaline, starring Blake Lively, premiered this weekend to an estimated $13.1 million. That doesn’t compare well to The Other Woman, another film aimed at a female audience, but it does compare well to Nicholas Sparks-type films, which share Adaline‘s similar dramatic element. Recent films like The Longest Ride and The Best of Me took in less than the romance sci-fi film.
All in all, the film will do decently, thanks to a top notch performance by Lively and good reviews.
