The Lorde age truthers only had it half right, according to South Park.
Last night (Oct. 8), the show revealed the true identity of the Kiwi singer, claiming she’s really Randy Marsh—Stan’s dad—a middle aged man who is only pretending to be a woman so that he could use the ladies bathroom at work. An elaborate plan to say the least.
This joke on Lorde is a continuation from last week’s episode “Gluten Free Ebola” where Randy claims he works with Lorde’s uncle, only to show up at a party Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny are throwing dressed as the pop star to sing her made-up song, “I Am Lorde.”
This episode also pokes a little fun at music journalism with a just-the-facts ’40s style reporter from Spin Magazine who just wants to know why the “humble” and “down to earth” Lorde is in South Park. As everybody knows, Matt Stone and Trey Parker don’t mind having a little fun at someone else’s expense, especially if that person maybe didn’t seem to get the joke the first time around.
