Call it eerie, call it unnerving—whatever it is, it certainly falls in line with the aesthetic that hit FX drama ‘Sons of Anarchy’ is flaunting for their final season, which stars tomorrow.
All together, there are two new covers: ‘Never My Love’ by Audra Mae and The Forest Rangers featuring Billy Valentine (a cover of The Association) and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by The Forest Rangers featuring The White Buffalo, Billy Valentine and Franky Perez.
Both have managed to feel essentially SAMCRO country while still retaining the integrity of the original version—particularly in the case of ‘Rhapsody’. It’s moody, a little bit gloomy, and, like the show’s heroes (or anti-heroes) rough around the edges.
There’s a bit of grime in the composition where Freddie Mercury’s vocals used to glitter and a less refined children’s singing group (foreshadowing?) in place of the clean choral section echoing the melody line of the original.
Stream the new tracks exclusively at Billboard.
The new season begins tomorrow on FX with a hour-and-45 minute premiere.
