Los Angeles Memorial Tree Dedicated to George Harrison Being Literally Destroyed…By Beetles

By Alyssa Pereira

Sometimes, reality is just as strange as fiction.

Such is the case today, when news broke that the pine tree planted in 2004 near Griffith Observatory had died as the result of being killed by—yep—beetles.

The tree was planted in Los Angeles as a tribute to the time Harrison spent in Los Angeles during his final days and because he was a frequent gardener later in his life.

The tree had grown to more than 10 feet tall before it died.

No date is set yet for the tree’s replanting, but L.A. Councilman Tom LaBonge says the tree will happen soon.
