Yesterday’s SF MusicTech showcased a plethora of new start-ups and features out in the music market, but these were the best things we saw (or, you know, heard) at this year’s conference. The fun new things include a musical toy or two and a green moment with a seasoned local musician.
1. SoundHound‘s newest feature allows users to sing or hum a song into the mobile app—AND IT WILL FIND IT!
2. FretPen, a tiny guitar and pen fashioned from actual real guitar materials, works like a tiny digital guitar. You won’t be able to buy the pen until at least November, but in the meantime, here’s a video to demonstrate all the awesome stuff it does.
3. CBS Radio is rolling out their new Sports feature called “10 Seconds of Glory” to more markets. The app feature allows users to record 10 second clips voicing their opinion on a particular sports event and radio DJs will select certain clips to air.
4. John Vanderslice voiced his opinion on the high cost of weed these days.
6. San Francisco band Battlehooch was the first band to use BandPage. The local 6-piece band, as it turns out, was the first group to embrace the all-inclusive, international music marketing platform.
7. Oakland rapper and producer G-Eazy unexpectedly replaced a panel on music & brain chemistry, but kind of surprisingly, he had a significant amount of foresight into social media marketing. He attributes building his success to releasing free mixtapes in areas he’ll be playing shows.
