The popular cartoon based on a Hasbro toy line is now getting a live action version, thanks to director Jon M. Chu, Scooter Braun Productions (yep—the one of Bieberdom), and Blumhouse Productions.
The original show ran in the late 80s, and nearly thirty years later, the movie is already well underway. The film will obviously be updated, and producers said it will play “for a whole new generation with themes of being true to who you are in a multitasking, hyperlinked social media age.”
The film will follow Jem and her band, called ‘Jem and the Holograms’ on a hunt across Los Angeles for a message left for her and her sister Kimber by their father. Jem will be played by Aubrey Peeples, who is best known for her role as Layla Grant on ‘Nashville.’ The Holograms will be played by Stefanie Scott from the Disney Channel who will play Kimber, “Pretty Little Liars”‘ Aurora Perrineau as Shana, and Hayley Kiyoko as Aja.
