It’s been a wild week in the Bay Area. Headline frenzy took hold of us, from the Outside Lands lineup announcement to news of David Letterman’s Late Night show replacement, to even—who knew?—’Game of Thrones’ actresses who have a past in very adult entertainment. Here are this week’s buzziest stories.
Surprise? The New York Post uncovered a funny fact: six actresses on the wildly popular HBO show turn out to have dabbled (or, currently dabble) in porn. This would maybe be more of a shocker if the show didn’t require nudity of pretty much all of its actors and actresses, but it’s still noteworthy. Now, what we really want to know now is, who was the first person to speak up with, “Oh, that actress on that ‘Game of Thrones’ episode? Yeah, I’ve seen her in a movie before…”?
In a move we pretty much predicted, Stephen Colbert (who will continue to pronounce his last name as “kohl-bear”) will take over as the new host of CBS’ ‘Late Show’ in 2015 when David Letterman retires. Some were shocked and most were excited, but we’re just happy to see someone as effortlessly entertaining as Colbert take over Letterman’s seat. We’ll be watching the throne.
Na na na na na na na na BATKID! Young Miles, the courageous and compact superhero protecting our great city, was honored this week when the San Francisco Giants gave him the opportunity to throw the Opening Game’s first pitch. Brace yourself for some seriously adorable pictures.
Well, color us surprised. Just kidding. Another Planet Entertainment and Superfly Productions, the powers that put on Outside Lands every August in Golden Gate Park, announced their line-up earlier this week. Then they promptly sold it out. This year’s headliners are The Killers, Kanye West, and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers (who are actually a repeat headliner). More acts include Capital Cities, Grouplove, Death Cab for Cutie, Spoon, Kacey Musgraves, and Cut Copy. Oh, and speaking of bands playing Outside Lands…
The sisters Haim have already confirmed an Outside Lands appearance and also sold out two nights at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco. We went to the first night to recap for you one of the hottest acts of this year. The pop rock trio delivered a searing performance and —cue the “aaawwwwww”‘s—for the encore, Mama and Papa Haim joined their daughters on stage for a power-packed, Mom-led rendition of “Mustang Sally.”
