Jenifer Ringer started training for her ballet career at age 10. By age 16, she was a professional dancer with New York City Ballet.
She explains that it was a lot to expect such a young person to take on the responsibility and physical and emotional challenge of living and working in New York City, alone, in such a competitive field.
Although she was successful in the career part of her life, her personal struggles intensified, developing into an eating disorder.
Finally, after years of struggling to keep her wait at a Ballerina-thin place, the company did not renew her contract…they said she was simply too big for the costumes…ballet speak for too chubby to look good.
It was through her faith and finding balance that she lost the weight and found her passion for dance again…and found love as well! (Yay, happily ever after!) Her new memoir is Dancing Through It: My Journey in the Ballet.
