When I found out I’d have the chance to talk with Matt Nathanson about “Kinks Shirt” and his new record (Last of the Great Pretenders) in general, the “where should the interview take place” conversation lasted about 12 seconds: the answer was “9th and Irving.”
That line from “Kinks Shirt” led us to Howard’s Cafe (shouts to Leo!) right there on the corner, to talk about Matt’s record…and inspiration…and controversy/vs fans having his back….and the only time he’s ever stood still and listened to his own music in public…and his favorite lyrics ever… …and about how everything, really, just comes down to Getting Off.
