Dave Matthews Band are planning a massive summer tour which will run from May through Sept. Dubbed A Very Special Evening with Dave Matthews Band, DMB will switch gears throughout the night from electric to acoustic sets, according to Rolling Stone. Expect stripped-down numbers from frontman Dave Matthews and guitarist Tim Reynolds as well as more flushed out lineups with the rest of the band.
“I was talking to Carter [Beauford, drums] about how much I still like just sitting around playing music together,” Matthews said in a statement. “It’s how we started – in the basements of Carter’s and my mom’s houses. Our shows are loose, but we started thinking that maybe this summer we should make them looser and bring some of that feeling to the stage. It seems like the opposite of a safe plan, so why not?”
The tour kicks off May 16 in Woodlands, Texas, and runs through Sept. 6 in Irvine, Calif. All tickets except the band’s Labor Day show at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington State go on sale Feb. 7.
DMB will do a set of three shows in Berkeley at the Greek Theatre on August 22nd, 23th, and 24th.
