The Hula Show 2013 At The Palace Of Fine Arts

Patrick Makuakane presents his award-winning dance company Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wedkiu at the Palace of fine Arts on october 19th, 20th, 25th, 26th and 27th.

The show includes 25 different dances, some traditional and some a modern take on hula.

Patrick uses traditional hula music for many of his dances but he also uses music not usually associated with hula, like opera, jazz, and songs from Louis Armstrong.

This year’s theme is based on Hawaiian language newspapers that were published from 1834 through 1948 and circulated throughout the islands. Over 100 different newspapers were in circulation during that time period.

Patrick’s school has hundreds of students ranging from very young to very old, both girls and boys and men and women.
