After Green Day was forced to cancel a slew of appearances when frontman Billie Joe Armstrong checked into rehab back in September following an onstage meltdown in Vegas, the band has announced their imminent return with a string of 2013 tour dates and a message from Armstrong himself to the fans.

“I just wanted to thank you all for the love support you’ve showed for the past few months,” Armstrong wrote on his personal Instagram account. “Believe me, it hasn’t gone unnoticed and I’m eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I’m getting better every day.

“So now, without further ado, the show must go on,” Armstrong added. “We can’t wait to get on the road and live out loud! Our passion has only grown stronger.”

Armstrong’s message was soon followed by the release of new concert dates to begin making up for the band’s scrapped tour that was originally scheduled to coincide with the release of their three album trilogy, Uno!, Dos! and Tre! The revamped jaunt will now kick off on March 28 at Chicago’s Allstate Arena, followed by shows in Moline, IL, Pittsburgh, PA, and Rochester, NY (see a complete itinerary below).

In addition to the new shows, the band also promises west coast dates will be announced early in 2013.

Armstrong was recently seen showing off his comedic chops in a deleted scene from Judd Apatow’s latest movie, This is 40, pitching a fictitious solo album. The NSFW clip can be seen here.
