As the year is quickly coming to an end, we at Alice took some time to look back on what albums really defined 2012 for the station. There was a ton of great new music but here are the ten albums that if you don’t have them yet … use that gift card to grab them today!
1. Pink – The Truth About Love
P!ink’s sixth studio album debuted at number one on the Billboard Charts in September. The GRAMMY nominated album also contains one of the biggest hits of the year in “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)”
2. Taylor Swift – Red
Taylor Swift’s latest debut at #1 and blew everyone out of the water by selling over a million copies in the first week alone. Red contains the mega-hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”.
3. Maroon 5 – Overexposed
Overexposed hit stores on June 26, 2012 and reached #2 on the Billboard charts. Along with the boost from Adam Levine’s judging duties on The Voice and the hit single “Payphone”, Maroon 5’s fourth studio album became one of the certified must have albums of ’12.
4. Kelly Clarkson – Stronger
The latest album from the American Idol alum peaked at #2 on the Billboard Charts. Though it came out in late 2011, the records true impact wasn’t felt until the single “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” took over the airwaves. Stronger also contains the hit “Mr. Know It All”.
5. fun. – Some Nights
On the back of two huge singles fun. became one of the biggest and critically acclaimed bands of 2012. Their record Some Nights featuring “We Are Young” and “Some Nights” has garnered GRAMMY nominations and has sold over 800,000 copies to date.
6. Katy Perry – Teenage Dream The Complete Confection
Re-released with bonus material in 2012, Teenage Dream continued to dominate the airwaves world wide with a litany of hits: “The One That Got Away,” “Part of Me,” “Wide Awake,” “E.T.,” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”
7. Ed Sheeran – +
Alice was the first station in the US to recognize how great Ed Sheeran and his single “The A Team” really was. Since then Ed has played for the Queen of England, hit the stage in Golden Gate Park, and been nominated for multiple GRAMMY Awards.
8. Train – California 37
Train’s sixth studio album, California 37, hit stores in April 2012 and reached #4 on the Billboard 200 charts. The single “Drive By” has been a staple on Alice in 2012 and sold over 2 million copies!
9. Bruno Mars – Unorthodox Jukebox
A late addition to our Best of list, Bruno Mars’ latest debuted at # in early December 2012. The first single, “Locked Out of Heaven”, has been blowing up on Alice since it’s release in October. Look for the next single “Young Girls” in early 2013.
10. Ellie Goulding – HalcyonThe follow up to Ellie’s mega-hit “Lights”, Halcyon featured the single “Anything Could Happen” and has reach #9 on the Billboard Charts. Listen for the next single off the album … “Figure 8”.
