Phillip Phillips made a lot of little fans happy last week.

The American Idol-winner took the stage in Staten Island, New York to perform with the PS22 choir. The half hour performance, broadcasted live on Stageit.com, helped raise money for The Red Cross’ relief efforts in the wake of superstorm Sandy, along with The Siller Foundation.

Phillips brought out all the stops for the show premiering two new songs and covering Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” along with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” which sounded more like the Dave Matthews Band then the King of Pop.

The singer got a little help from the grade school chorus on a new song, “Gone, Gone, Gone,” which will be featured on his upcoming album, The World from the Side of the Moon.

Phillips keeps things simple on the tender love song with an acoustic guitar, but pumps things up with help from the kids who join in on the chorus repeating, “I’ll love you long after your gone, gone, gone.”

Even Phillips is surprised about how good everything sounded remarking when they finish, “That was the first take, man!”

Our recommendation? Phillips should recruit PS22 to perform on his upcoming debut.
