Apparently ‘Dear John’ Is John Mayer

In a recent  interview with Rolling Stone Magazine for the new issue,  singer-songwriter John Mayer addresses country pop-star Taylor Swift’s appropriately named song “Dear John”. The song which was on Swift’s 2010 best-selling album Speak Now, was released shortly after Mayer had questionable(to say the least) interviews with Rolling Stone and Playboy. If you didn’t have the pleasure of reading it, he has dreams of putting his writing skills to use in pornography.

Mayer says the song,  “humiliated me” and “made me feel terrible,” Before the song’s release Mayer and Swift were linked romantically. Not only does Mayer take personal issue with the song for obvious reasons, but also as a musician. Mayer goes on to say he thought it was “cheap songwriting”. Calling Taylor’s songwriting cheap might be a little harsh, seeing as Mayer has definitely used personal experience for songs, or maybe he’s forgotten Inside Wants Out. Perhaps he’s just a little upset 2010’s  Speak Now outsold 2009’s Battle Studies in its first week by well over 100,000 copies. Considering his reputation as a bad boyfriend, I think he got off easy with just a Taylor Swift breakup song. It’s not like he got a “You Oughta Know” tribute from Alanis.  Either way, we’ll be happy to see John Mayer back on tour soon for new Album Born and Raised, and making music where he should be, not talking about another possible ex- girlfriend.
