Phillip Phillips road to the winning the latest season of American Idol Has been tougher than most. Not only did he have the judges and the competition to deal with but he had his time on the show plagued with health issues stemming from a congenital kidney condition that causes painful kidney stones. Now that the show is over he talked with Jayn about his health and looking forward to some home cooking.

With his health problems coming on strong during the taping of the show, Phillips had to really focus to keep his energy levels up.

“I’m used to playing 3 or 4 hour gigs and then being tired after that. Now going from playing 1 to 2 song – maybe 3 songs a week. Just being exhausted after each performance,” he said. “I tried to save it all for the Wednesday nights.”

On how he is currently doing, Phillips said, “I have some good people around me that are helping take care of me and stuff. I’m doing alright.”

Now that the show is over, Phillips said he’s looking forward to heading back to Lessburg, Georgia where he could be “just a normal guy back at home.”

Phillips added, “I want to get back home and get some good home cooked food.”

What does he wants on the menu?

“Maybe some of my mom’s homemade chicken ‘n’ dumplings, homemade chicken pot pie, meatloaf – I don’t know, so many things – just a huge feast.”

Phillips will be joining the rest of the top ten from Idol for the American Idol Live Tour that kicks of in Detroit on July 7th.
