Today via their Twitter account, Duran Duran wished a very happy birthday to their seminal album Rio. The album which hit shelves in UK in May of 1982 (made it to the US in the fall of the same year) boasted the hit singles “Hungry Like the Wolf“, “Save a Prayer“, and the title track “Rio“.

The iconic video for the single “Rio” – featuring the pastel suited band members on a yacht in Antigua – influenced not only Eighties pop culture but helped bolster the popularity the then fledgling MTV.

“‘Rio’ is the definitive video of the 80s – the music, the style, the sex. And It gave me all the ammo I needed for anyone who dared claim anyone other than John Taylor as ‘The Favorite’.”
