Postcards From Hawaii – Thursday 9/22 Broadcast

Hello again, it’s Rebecca from the Aulani, a new Disney Resort and Spa, blogging for Jayn during her live broadcast here.

[photogallerylink id=95440 align=left]I never knew how much multitasking it took to be a broadcaster! Jayn is back and forth with the board operator in our San Francisco studio, playing music, interviewing Disney Cast Members and soaking up all the beauty of the Aulani all at the same time! Not to mention there is a constant buzz all around us with all the media here to help Disney launch the Grand Opening of the Aulani. We are certainly here at an exciting time. Tonight we will be attending the Grand Opening Ceremony and Party and I have been told to expect GREATNESS! I can’t wait to see what magic Disney has in store for us!

Working in marketing, one of the things I’ve learned from my experiences in hosting events is that perfection is in the details. To enrich the experience of your guests, you really have to go the extra mile with the little things. The Aulani knows this too! We have been presented with a beautiful and edible sculpture of Stitch from “Lilo and Stitch”, cookies with Mickey Mouse ears sprinkles on it, a gorgeous centerpiece of tropical flowers, and the lamp in my room is a wooden tiki surfer Mickey Mouse – how cute is that?! There is Hawaiian inspired art everywhere here and I feel like I’m really having a chance to learn about the Hawaiian culture and Polynesian history.

The amazing thing that really impresses me is although the Aulani is a truly Hawaiian experience; it is at the same time classic Disney. From our broadcast table we are looking down on the Waikolohe Valley, which is essentially the heart of the resort. It is a beautiful tropical garden with a lazy river you can float down. There are Disney characters walking around that you can take your picture with, special playground pools for children, and the valley sprawls all the way out to a private beach. There is a huge lava rock in the middle that doubles as a waterslide, and it has a sneaking resemblance to the Matterhorn!
