opportunity for independence 2 State Budget Cuts for Developmentally Disabled People

Opportunity for Independence

The current state budget under review is proposing massive cuts to programs and services for people with developmental disabilities. Rocio Smith, Executive Director of Area Board 5 on Developmental Disabilities, and Matthew Tarver-Walquist, Chief Planning and Communication Officer for Opportunity for Independence, talk about the cuts they’ve already had to manage and explain what the proposed cuts would do to those with developmental disabilities and their families and service providers. Listen to my interview with Rocio and Matt next and watch a video of a recent hearing on the issue:

Thank you, a lot of great information contained here. I appreciate that Alice finds this newsworthy because these budget cuts will literally cripple the system for serving people with developmental disabilities in CA and in the long run, cost our beautiful state more money. (not that it is all about money, IMHO, but I know that is what we are focused on here.)
